eBay is the biggest on-line auction in the world. eBay has strict rules against selling certain items such as guns, prohibited animal parts, live animals, etc., and are famous for allowing the selling of outrageously disgusting and ridiculous items, but eBay breaks their own Terms Of Service (TOS) agreement! eBay is world renowned for being a place where ANYTHING can be sold, but that is NOT always a good thing!! Even the Head of the President of eBay went to their own auction, but [unlike the animal parts] WAS caught and removed from the auction within 24 hours! Even ALL traces of it were removed [unlike many of the animal parts]. eBay has a lousy system of catching these auction listings before they go to auction, before the damage is done - where the seller and potential buyers get each other's information and do their dirty dealings separate from eBay's "playground for promoting profiting from pitiful practices". When Protect R Wildlife, a grassroots organization in Los Angeles, discovered that these items were being auctioned off on eBay, they started spreading the word to enlist help to unearth these items and complain to eBay to have them removed. It took a tremendous amount of time from busy animal rescuers, rehabilitators and animal advocates who don't have the time or money to do eBay's job, so too often the items weren't removed in time before being sold. Although we have caught many 100's of items, literally many 1000's slip through undiscovered! There are 100's EVERY DAY if you know where to search!! (Share actually found automatic weapons being sold on an eBay search for ANGELS, of all things!!) The sellers just go out and kill more wild animals for their fetuses, penises, paws, teeth, claws, skulls and hides. eBay is ENDORSING and PROMOTING animal cruelty and death, and law breaking. Merely having the laws and agencies to contact hidden in their rules (TOS agreement) does NOT leave eBay blameless or unaccountable. They have no plan set up to ensure that the sellers (and buyers) are actually following these rules or have actually acquired the necessary permits. This makes eBay an ACCOMPLICE in the numerous crimes being committed on this on-line auction!! Protect R Wildlife (PRW) has been emailing, filling out eBay's on-line complaint forms, writing letters, faxing, and telephoning to no avail. After a YEAR of hearing NOTHING, Share Bond, President of Protect R Wildlife finally heard from the assistant of Bill Cobb, eBay's President. Again, they basically shoved PRW to yet another department and stated how much they appreciate that WE do THEIR work. We sent a long proposal on how to improve their system (see Correspondence), even a reward system to go to those that do the work that could really use the monitory help for their rescue causes, but no, eBay EVEN charges these people auction and PayPal fees where they try to raise funds for their non-profit organizations! Some thanks!! Some of the more important suggestions PRW has made is to have it MANDATORY that anyone selling (or buying) animal parts, guns and such, list their license, permit(s) numbers and what type of permits they possess. This will make it easier for the numerous agencies concerned (see Agencies) to be able to track their activities - to see if the permit numbers exist, are for the right person (seller), are still valid, and if they have all the needed permits necessary to ship out of state or out of the country. A seller might have a permit to ship a skunk in the mail to another state, but not have a current trapper's license. Someone might have a hunting license, but not a permit to sell bear parts on the Internet. (We have caught people admitting that they are selling bear parts in a private correspondence, but because it is illegal, they used the term "large carnivore" for the penis they sold on eBay!! (See Correspondence.) We now correspond directly with these sellers! WHY isn't eBay doing this?? WHY aren't the agencies concerned that are supposed to investigate such trafficking and permits? PRW has tried reasoning with eBay for over a year, submitted proposals with wonderful suggestions, just to be ignored, but this dust bunny won't be swept under the carpet! PRW and our international volunteers (from Canada to China to Europe) cannot continue to do eBay's work for nothing. We have genuinely tried, but just don't have enough people with enough time for this huge job! The living animals in our care take up 20 hours a day of our time. It's all we can do to keep dead animals off of eBay! PLEASE help us set up a large task force to do eBay's work (since they refuse to work with us) to 1) catch each and every item the second it goes to auction, 2) retrieve all of the seller's information (other items sold in their "history" and other names used) to report them (and eBay) to the proper authorities, 3) get these items removed immediately, and 4) reward the animal rescuers that are doing the work. PRW will also expose eBay Atrocities all over the Internet and media, as well as launch friendly protests and boycotts. Donate To This Cause. You can pay via the PayPal button on our www.ebayatrocities.com web site or mail a money order to Protect R Wildlife, P. O. Box 500128, Palmdale, CA 93550, and put in the description that it is for the "eBay Atrocity Campaign". |
