Dear Ms. Cowart,

Thank you for you e-mail to PETA about the animal products you saw listed on eBay.

Sadly, it is legal and within eBay's rules to list many kinds of animal skins and other body parts. We agree that eBay should not promote or encourage the killing of animals for "sport." We urge you to join us in writing a letter of complaint to eBay, insisting that they stop promoting cruelty to animals by selling their skins and related products. Please send your letter to:

Pierre M. Omidyar
Chairman
eBay.com Inc.
2145 Hamilton Ave.
San Jose, CA 95125
Phone: 408-558-7400
Fax: 408-558-7401

If you haven't already done so, we also urge you to write letters to the editors of local newspapers and magazines explaining why hunting and trapping are not only cruel and unethical, but unnecessary. For information to include in your letters, please see our factsheet on "sport" hunting at http://www.peta.org/factsheet/files/FactsheetDisplay.asp?ID=53, and for letter-writing tips please see our guide at http://www.peta.org/Alert/TKit.html.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Thanks again for your e-mail, and for your concern for animals.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Collins

Here's a reply from Jen O'Connor. I spoke with two people at PETA and they're willing to take this up with Ebay again. If anyone has saved any auctions that are disgusting or possibly illegal refering to animals please forward them to Jen at the address below. I saved the cat heart they were selling and sent it to her already.

PLEASE send me the one about the cat heart.  I did a huge search today in our Protect R Wildlife archives, and at the current eBay auction, and found a whole slew of different disgusting items.  If someone doesn't believe that this is going on or how bad it really is, this list is convincing enough.  Go take a look if you haven't seen it yet.

Two kids were arrested as a result of contacting the local Police in their area and the SPCA. It seems they were killing local pets and selling parts to other idiots on ebay. They broke up a satanic group of teenagers as well.

I need letters, articles, etc. on these cases, if you have it.

(Beth)
Selling animals body parts, or frozen bodies listed as taxidermy etc. needs to be addressed asap.

(Share)
There's a bunch there right now!!  A fox (or coyote?) body is still in the freezer WHOLE ready to be shipped to the highest bidder.  I don't think it's legal to ship whole frozen bodies in the mail, and if you can, they probably need special permits.  Right??

(Beth)
At least they're willing to take up the cause again. So if anyone runs across something suspicious please forward to PETA.

Like I said, you don't have to search hard.  The items are there in huge quantities EVERY DAY OF EVERY YEAR.  You just have to know what key words to plug in - taxidermy, fetus, penis, paws, etc.

(Beth)
Taxidermy items or furs cannot be touched but a body of an animals etc. can be addressed. Also if any of you have had contact with any of the sellers of these items and saved their replys please send as well. Thanks to all who can help. Beth

YES, please.  Me too!!

Thanks for the great work you are doing on this cause, Beth, and anyone else that is involved!!

I'm still waiting to hear back from eBay on our negotiations......

cc:  To Jen, I'll send you the search I did today from my other account (EndAnimlCruelty@aol.com) later.  I'll also send you the Proposal I sent to eBay.

Hi Beth!

I totally agree about ebay...I do know that PETA has written to ebay several times about these very issues, and we had an Action Alert on our Web site about it. I think that was a couple years ago...no response. I'll try to track down the person who took ebay on and see what else can be done, or at least write again and maybe another alert so they know we aren't going away.
